Kuona – Interior Design by Ringo Studio

A Modern Bathhouse in NoHo, New York

Kuona is a concierge eye clinic that reframes eyecare as a hospitality-led experience. Designed by New York–based Ringo Studio in partnership with The Beekman Hotel, the space merges modern wellness, fashion-forward retail, and intimate care within an immersive, story-driven interior. Rather than a traditional clinic, Kuona evokes the comfort of a boutique hotel lounge—inviting guests into a setting that prioritizes ease, warmth, and emotional connection.

A Hospitality-Led Interior

The space unfolds through a richly layered palette of walnut, soft textiles, high-gloss accents, and deep chocolate flooring underfoot. Material warmth and soft geometry guide the experience, creating a sense of familiarity and calm. Floor-to-ceiling sheer curtains filter daylight from the Manhattan streetscape, softening the entry sequence while establishing privacy from the moment of arrival.

A custom wall-to-wall retail display anchors the main space. Four vertical walnut columns with integrated mirrors frame neutral cream shelving, detailed with curved bullnose edges and soft illumination to showcase a curated selection of frames. At the center, a sculptural burl-wood reception desk—defined by soft, mid-century–inspired curves—rests against taupe-tinted glass block, casting a diffused, welcoming glow throughout the space.

Designed for Intimacy and Flow

Spatial moments are intentionally sequenced to feel personal and unhurried. The styling vanity is tucked into an intimate nook, where vintage-inspired butter-yellow walls set the tone for a layered composition of brown marble paneling, plush patterned carpet, and a custom high-gloss lacquered counter with rounded edges. These details transform the act of trying on eyewear into a ritual—quiet, tactile, and human.

Every transition within Kuona softens the boundary between clinical care and experience, allowing guests to move through the space with comfort rather than formality.

A New Vision for Wellness

Named after the Swahili word for “to see,” Kuona reflects a broader evolution in wellness environments. Clinical care, aesthetic treatments, and curated retail are seamlessly integrated into a single elevated setting. Dr. Visanji’s eyewear line—recognized for its vintage-inspired silhouettes—is echoed throughout the interior, where mid-century references are reimagined through a contemporary lens.

The result is a refined, hospitality-driven environment where fashion, wellness, and care converge—elevating everyday eyecare into a thoughtful, emotionally resonant experience.
