This project engages two primitives foundations of architecture: the line and the grid. New line types emerge through a series of parallel exercises. The specific quality of the lines were discovered through a technique of drawing with my own hair. The ethereal and whimsical qualities of the strands of red hair were translated through rigorous drawing tests and physical artifacts and the resulting architecture is informed by these new techniques of making. The project is sited in Peckham Rye and offers a funky new space for an equally unique and hip neighborhood bursting with character. A series of domed wedding chapels are loosely organized by a grid of wobbly columns. Colorful stained glass filters the light and creates a spiritual yet nondenominational atmosphere. Gardens are sprinkled throughout the grid, acting as backdrop and witness for the often spontaneous ceremony.
